Tantric Women in Relationship

The goal of this series is to explore how the wisdom of Tantra translates into modern relationships.  It is intended to inspire both women who are in relationship and those who are not by opening their eyes to the possibilities. I was moved to do this series because of my own awakenings and challenges in relationship.

Through Tantra I have seen and experienced possibilities between two people that are completely out of the context of our societies model for relationship.  This delights me and it also raises new questions.  I see this series as paving a new path of possibilities for women who have seen only limited openings in relationship and also women like me who are dedicated to their personal practice, dedicated to living intimacy and longing for sisters on the journey.

I often find myself imagining that there is someone who is out there who has ‘figured it all out’, I would love for all of us to talk openly about the riches that we experience, what we know is available, as well as the unenlightened moments where relationship can reveal harsh truths that we had safely hidden from ourselves.

Ultimately, I have found relationship to be my greatest teacher. It has the power to expose me completely, to reveal the best of myself and open doorways to awakening that I have not felt anywhere else… it also has the power to humble me and highlight the parts of me that are controlling, judgmental, tight, etc.  I want to share with other women the power of this path of love.

In love,

Charu

Interview 1:  Antoinette Asimus of Tantra Heart

www.tantraheart.com

People often ask how my partner, Richard, and I became involved with our
teaching and coaching. Married for 29 years in 1996, we were committed to
keeping our relationship exciting and alive. Knowing that sex was important
for us, we began reading books and watching videos about “better sex.” In
our exploration Tantra appeared. Wow! Sex and the divine! In the
subconscious we knew that high pleasure, intimacy and orgasming were as God
would be. We never imagined that all of cosmic existence was available
through the Tantric practices of uniting sex, heart and spirit.

After learning about Tantra from a variety of texts and videos we felt ready
to find a teacher who led experiential retreats. We cleared our schedule,
created a vacation to join a class, and walked into the course with
curiosity and some trepidation about the unknown. Within a day or so in
the deep immersion of the Tantric experience, we changed our lives in ways
we couldn’t imagine. After working in the corporate world for 29 years, I
left my professional career in 2001, to devote full time attention to our
teaching and coaching. Which brings me to this moment now, what a joy to be
living my life purpose.

On Her Relationship:

Richard and I are committed to a monogamous relationship with deep focus.
As researchers and experimenters who dive deeply into our personal
spiritual-sexual exploration, we share our discoveries through our work with
the intention to help others learn to live in joy, excitement and love no
matter what.

Interview 2: Nita Rubio of Embody Shakti

www.embodyshakti.com

Nita Rubio was born and raised in Southern California in a liberal household. Nonetheless, women’s rights, women’s studies, and  female empowerment were not things inherently included in this liberalism. Luckily, spirituality and creativity were highly regarded and served as the pathway for self-discovery and deep personal inquiry.

At the age of 18, Nita began to read authors such as Carol Christ, Luisah Tesh, Riane Eisler, and more. This impacted her deeply and it was incredibly exciting to know of these women who viewed the personal as political and that even the paradigm of patriarchy needed to be extracted from our spiritual beliefs. Following this new way of perceiving her walk in the world, Nita was formally ordained as a Priestess through Woman Mysteries of the Ancient-Future Sisterhood. Although this mystery school teaches many spiritual arts, its rare inclusion is that of the need for its Priestess’s to fully explore the extent of misogyny held deeply in the feminine body. Nita has been teaching the core work of the lineage, The Tantric Dance of Feminine Power for 13 years.

At this time, Nita is passionate about learning and teaching the matriarchal and tribal roots of Tantra and helping women to explore the depths of power viscerally held in the wisdom of their bodies.

Lexi Fisher D.C. has been studying Yoga since the age of 17.  Her passion has been to experience how vital, alive and ecstatic we can be in our bodies.  In the late 70’s as she began her Chiropractic education she began to study Tantra yoga as part of her own healing journey.  By 1994 she was ready to turn her main focus from Abundant Health Associates, the Chiropractic business she had created, to a conscious loving relationship, and the practice of Tantra Yoga with a monogamous partner. Lexi has now been living, loving and practicing with Kip for 15 years.  They have studied with a list of the most well known Tantra Yoga teachers.  They have been certified to teach both the SkyDancing approach with Margot Anand and Ipsalu Tantra Kriya Yoga with Bodhi Avinasha. With Kip she teach Tantra Workshops, longer retreats, and works with couples and individuals privately.

Lexi has been experimenting with in herself and with circles of women how to cultivate our own juicy, feminine energy while in our busy lives and especially as we move into menopause and take on the mantel of the Crone, the wise women.  Lexi holds women’s circles and workshops and has created a CD and DVD to facilitate sharing the gift of the Vajrayogini Practice, a Tibetan Nun practice.

Interview 4: Etirsa Coons

http://hamambody.com

Etirsa (eh-tier-sah) was born to immigrant parents and grew up in San Diego, California.  She started modeling at the age of 14 and has lived and worked internationally.  Living in Los Angeles for almost 10years, she began acting in notable TV commercials such as Verizon, Miller Lite, Diet Coke, and many others.

From an early age Etirsa was exposed to many different areas of spirituality including Christianity, metaphysics, Huna and meditation.  She realized that she had the gift of “laying on of hands” healing since the age of 9, so it was impossible for her to stray far from the world of healing, health and well being.  She now working as an apprentice hands-on and distance healer discovering and uncovering this special gift, under the guidance and teaching of Oracle, Ijia Woolf.  She writes a blog on cleansing the body, mind and soul. http://hamambody.com

She sought out Tantra almost 4 years ago as a way to help heal some womb issues in the hopes of simultaneously becoming more in touch with her femininity.  What she found were multiple websites that were just short of advertisements for the orgy type lifestyle which didn’t seem neither supportive or healing.  Soon after she was introduced to a Tantra circle that has been so, so gentle loving and supportive to both Women and Men.  She has been attending as many Tantra classes as she can get in to for almost 3 years now.

On Her Relationship:

Etirsa is in a monogamous relationship with her Love, Dylan.  As of this writing, they’ve been together 9 months.  She has brought Tantra into their relationship which has given them a deep level of trust and an understanding of one another that may have taken years to attain otherwise.

Interview 5: Parvathi Nath

www.parvathinath.com

Parvathi was born in India into a family with ancient lineage of Yoga and Vedanta. Raised with these teachings and principles, at a very young age she began her training in  the Pratyabhijnana Marga School of Kashmir Shaivism by a yogini adept. Over the years she received the full transmissions of this tradition integrating them with Yoga, Vedanta and Samaya Tantras (a specific scientific school of yoga wisdom). Later, she received the Shree Vidya transmissions through the eminent Shree Amritananda Saraswati of Devipuram.

She  also received the transmission of the deepest teachings of the Kaula lineage and became an adept in the art of mantras and the different sadhanas. She practiced the sadhana of the Ten Mahavidyas dedicated to Kali, Tara, Tripurasundari, Bhuvaneshvari, Chinnamasta, Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Baglamukhi, Matangi and Kamala. Then she was initiated to the teachings and cosmic practice of Shree Vidya that she transmits today.  After extensive training and arduous testing, she was asked to teach by her teachers who themselves are lineage holders. She does this as a yogini sharing the transmissions, but not as a guru. Parvathi ’s lineage  goes back to Matsyendranath himself and through him to the oldest sources of Shaivism.

On Her Relationship:

We met three years ago in Italy by chance and have been together just under three years.  I had trained in Tantra since childhood and he had done intensive spiritual and consciousness work but not necessarily Tantra. So we both had quite a background of consciousness work before we met and we continue in our studies and practices independently and together.
